Hugh Watkins retired from refereeing following a spat with the WRU over comments he made on twitter. He was handed a 12-week suspension by the Welsh Rugby Union following complaints made by Paddy O'Brien, the IRB Sevens manager. His sin? He queried a decision by the referee not to award a red card for what looked to be a serious tip tackle. Ironically, referees like Jonathan Kaplan now routinely pass unsanctioned comments on fellow ref's performances on Twitter.
