Lourens van der Merwe

Lourens made his debut as a referee in Super Rugby in 2012, but two years later was sacked from by the SANZAAR referees panel following a string of poor performances. He still referees on the National B Panel of the South African Rugby Union. An ex-schoolmaster, he took up the whistle following an injury as a player. He has a son called Llewellyn.
